| What
Have We Done For You Lately?
In addition to some remarkable programs at General Assembly
in recent years, we are also monitoring the UUA’s work on
multiculturalism to see whether Jewish heritage and faith
traditions are being included in our headquarters’ work in
this area. We are in dialogue with staff members there and
are working to create more inclusion of the many gifts Jewish
tradition has to offer.

What Else Does UUJA Do?
We’re currently working on establishing even more ways
to serve UU congregations and religious leaders. We’re
working on connecting with the UUMA (UU Minister’s
Association), LREDA (Liberal Religious Educators Association)
and UUA lay organizations to offer programs and resources
on Jewish-UU connections and issues.. We encourage all lay
people and clergy to learn about similarities between the
faiths, to explore rituals and history in Judaism that can
inform our own religious tradition..
The Burning Bush (Newsletter)
Our newsletter, the Burning Bush will be coming out regularly
next year. It’s a venue for updates on UUJA initiatives, as
well as contributions in the form of essays, reflections,
poetry, and announcements of events. It’s also an important
connection with our non-online members and friends.
Our Brochure: Download & Distribute
The more people that know about UUJA and our mission, the
more we can fulfill our mission - so please feel free to print
out a copy of this flyer, make copies, and distribute them
at your congregation or to folks you think would be interested
- and urge them to join! Thanks for your help and hope we'll
all continue to grow together as we explore and learn.

Mission
Our mission is to offer resources and opportunities
for a range of needs, from those of the many Unitarian Universalists
who have come to our faith from Judaism, to the challenges
of interfaith couples and families, to religious professionals
and laypeople with a personal or spiritual interest in Jewish/UU
issues, stories, resources and heritage.
History
UUJA was founded almost 20 years ago by UU’s of Jewish descent
or interest who were concerned to create a voice for the often
overlooked Jewish presence in our faith. Around 10% of our
clergy and laity come from Jewish backgrounds and yet were
often neglected. UUJA strives to change this. At General Assembly
we have sponsored such renowned speakers as R. Michael Lerner
and Bishop Spong. We have worked on some such programs together
with colleagues like those at the UU Christian Fellowship.
Openness and intentional religious pluralism are important
values for us and our work. |
