Shabbat Aliyah

By Wayne Cochran

Tonight I kindle the Shabbat lights in recognition
that light is the energy that feeds the living,
that reveals the physical attributes and expressions of humanity.
Light, a powerful champion,
chases darkness from the Holy Land
and frees me to roam its fabled domains.
Through the mist,
a great light pours urging me to put on the shoes of rainbows.
